Bleeding & Bruising Disorders
Clinical workup for frequent nosebleeds, unexplained skin petechiae, gum bleeding, and coagulation factor deficiencies.
Clinical Diagnostic Overview
Frequent large bruises without significant trauma, prolonged bleeding following minor cuts or dental extractions, and recurrent heavy menstrual bleeding (menorrhagia) warrant investigation of the hemostatic system.
Testing includes Prothrombin Time (PT/INR), Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time (APTT), Fibrinogen, Platelet aggregation studies, and specific factor assays (Factor VIII, IX, von Willebrand factor).
⚠️ When Specialist Hematology Consultation is Advised
Consult if you have a family history of bleeding disorders, recurrent joint swelling with pain after mild bumps (hemarthrosis), or unexpected bleeding before planned surgical procedures.
